Physiotherapy is a profession that works with people of all ages in treating, maintaining, and improving physical function. Physiotherapists can help prevent and treat many different conditions and injuries such as those caused by sport or work injuries, prolonged inactivity, accidents, or postural imbalances, which lead to pain and decreased function. Many injuries do not improve and may even become worse without proper treatment. Individuals are also more prone to injury and stress with postural imbalances.
Your physiotherapist will start by performing a full assessment to achieve a diagnosis and determine how the problem can be treated. Treatment plans usually consist of education of the problem, postural and activity education, use of modalities, manual therapy and joint mobilizations, tissue manipulation, taping, acupuncture, and therapeutic exercise prescription.
Physiotherapy will be able to treat many problems such as:
• Sport or work related injuries
• Pain in the neck, back, and shoulders
• Arthritis
• Post surgical conditions
• Vestibular or balance problems
• Muscle imbalances that inhibit performance or cause pain
